This vintage Black Americana String Holder is 9" high and 6 1/2" wide and is from the 1940's. It is made of chalk and is very rare! It is sometimes called "The Surprised Mammy". It is in very good condition. The paint is all original. Incised on the underneath part of her skirt is, "Copyright 1945". Poor Mammy - a mouse is trying to climb up her dress and she's all in a panic!! Even her red bloomers are exposed! I can almost hear her scream, "Lordy hav' mercy!!!"
